The people behind Groundcraft

British Austinites, five grown-up children, we've designed and built dozens of homes, for ourselves and for others.

We're British Austinites. Long before this was a job, we built our own homes, first in the UK, then in California, and raised five kids in them. They're grown now, and we're grandparents to three. Family, health and happiness are our deepest passion, and the reason we design and create the way we do.

Building our own homes taught us this: architects, designers and builders are good at what they do, and usually left to do it alone. Nobody guides and supports the whole team, so it's harder for each of them to deliver what you need. Groundcraft is the glue. One team helping every expert do their best work, with costs kept down and the finished home worth more.

Mel

Mel is a designer, artist, cook, baker and, according to Daniel and the kids, the ultimate supermum (supermom, in American). Twenty-plus years in residential and commercial design in the UK, Spain and the US. She supports the architect, designs the finishes, does the sourcing, and develops the rooms you actually want to live in every day. She starts from the person who'll be living there and what a real day in the house asks of it. It's never only the materials and the selections: it's how the home feels, where the light comes from, the height of the ceilings, the flow from room to room, the energy of the whole thing. She sees the home through your eyes if it's yours, and through the future owner's eyes if it's a spec build.

Daniel

Daniel has been in real estate since 2014, with more than 250 homes bought, built or sold across the US, including twenty-plus new builds in Austin. He works with Mel on architecture, finishes and sourcing, runs most of the consultations, and leads the whole team, the role he's played since running an 800-person company. He helps people, holds them accountable, and delivers what you need faster and better than you realized you needed it. He's also a health supergeek, on a mission to make every home we touch a healthier one. Find the holistic health side of him on Instagram at @thenotdoc.
